Tow-trucking through the storm

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Monday’s snowfall has kept AAA, and their contracted towing companies quite busy running from one help call to another.

News10NBC spent some time with one tow truck driver with Action Towing Service in Henrietta.

From the moment the snow started to accumulate until about 2 p.m., AAA and Action Towing Service responded to over 1,200 calls. That number has clearly risen since then.

The phones at Action Towing Service have been ringing off the hook. Stranded AAA members calling after driving off the roads. That’s exactly what happened to one driver as she attempted a turn, but ended up sliding into a snow drift. Dave, her tow truck driver was able to winch free her car from the snow in a matter of minutes, before she was able to drive away.

AAA Road Service Business Advisor Steve Horn told News10NBC the majority of calls have come from people who are "highsided." Meaning they got stuck trying to drive over the snow at the end of their own driveways.

"If you don’t need to travel, don’t. If you see that your driveway is full, make sure you clear it first, and if you do go down a side road, or tertiary road please be cautious about how much snow is on there, because you may get stuck." said Horn.

Due to the high number of calls, AAA suggests that you use their mobile app for quicker service. If you have an emergency they suggest that you call 9-1-1.
