Millions in federal funds will help renovate Inner Loop North and connect communities

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Millions in federal funding is going toward renovating the north side of the Inner Loop in downtown Rochester.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was in town on Monday to talk about the project. After transforming the Inner Loop on the eastside, the city is now moving forward to reconnect under-served communities on the north side of the Inner Loop with downtown, as well as creating new green spaces.

“This is a real opportunity for us to do something meaningful in this community, something that does right the wrongs of the past, and stares down the Robert Moses’ of the world saying we can do much better,” Senator Gillibrand said.

The transformation of the Inner Loop North will reconnect downtown Rochester with several Rochester neighborhoods, the Public Market, and High Falls. Actual construction could start in about five years.
