Conviction affirmed in case of Xerox Federal Credit Union robbery, murder

WEBSTER, N.Y. The man responsible for the deadly Xerox Federal Credit Union robbery in Webster back in 2003 is staying in prison.

The U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction of Richard Wilbern. It took 13 years to identify him as the suspect. During the robbery Wilbern shot and killed Xerox employee Raymond Batzel. He shot another employee, who survived.

Wilbern, who had been fired from Xerox, was convicted in 2019. He raised issues with his case involving DNA, his counsel, jurors and witnesses. All his arguments were rejected.

Wilbern will continue to serve life in prison.
