BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Town of Brighton and the Town of Penfield this week adopted the new tax exemption for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.

Monroe County just passed a local law giving those volunteer workers a 10% real property tax exemption recognizing the service of these first responders.

Volunteers who have been part of the organization for two years qualify. Agencies hope that the incentive will help recruit more volunteers.

Brighton’s exemption is for town residents who serve either Brighton Ambulance or Henrietta Fire.
