ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County Executive Adam Bello Tuesday announced a modernization initiative of the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA).

Bello said the program needs to focus on today’s needs and challenges. So, the reimagined COMIDA will be reshaped to support more workforce development and initiate targeted outreach for minority and women-owned business enterprises.

COMIDA Chair Ann Burr said its focus will also shift to align with the upcoming comprehensive plan.

"We want to help train people for good jobs that are available now. and we must make sure that all of our businesses understand our mission… what we do and how to access the support we offer to grow their business, hire more people, and prosper," Burr said.

The new plan for COMIDA was adopted Tuesday by the agency’s board of directors in a unanimous vote.

It will now allocate $2.5 million for workforce initiatives.
