ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Can you tell it is getting brighter in Rochester? When you take a look at the amount of daylight that we normally get this time of the year, we know it has been going up.

In fact, if you go back to December 21 we have already gained one hour and seventeen minutes of daylight. Moving ahead we have another two to three minutes per day of extra daylight. So it is getting brighter!

It is usually right around Valentine’s Day that you get the sense that we are turning the corner on the winter season. The highest temperature ever recorded for Valentine’s Day was 56 degrees and the lowest was -14 degrees. The greatest amount of snowfall was almost 18 inches back in 2007.

So what about this upcoming Valentine’s Day? It looks like the weather is going to be pretty good. We are forecasting some sunshine along with a few lake flakes. However, it is going to be very cold with the temperature only in the low 20s. Maybe a good opportunity for a snuggle with your sweetie.
