ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A southerly breeze and plenty of sunshine today pushed the temperature to above freezing levels for the first time since late last week.

That trend will continue for the start of the week as the southerly wind is in the forecast once again. Look for partial sunshine and relatively mild weather for Monday. The high temperature will reach 40 degrees by the afternoon. That will be the warmest weather in six days for Western New York.

No big storms are on the horizon for this week as a series of weak low-pressure systems will generally pass north of Rochester. Better known as “clipper systems”, these storms tend to move fast but lack any significant moisture. As a result, any rain or wet snow showers will be very limited throughout the week. Tuesday will feature a mix of clouds and limited sun with maybe a passing flurry. The high temperature will be in the lower 30s. Wednesday and Thursday will bring a few rains and wet snow showers with a high temperature in the middle to upper 30s. Snow showers will be on the increase for Friday afternoon with the mercury in the low 30s. Friday night and Saturday will bring a more vigorous clipper system that will likely produce more persistent snow showers. But appears any snow accumulation will be small going into the start of next weekend. It may take until next Sunday before any real arctic air returns to Western New York.

Early indications are for a few beaks of sunshine and a temperature near 30 degrees for Valentine’s Day.
