ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Some big-hearted Rochesterians are thawing out Sunday evening after a chilly dip in Lake Ontario.

Thousands charged on into the icy surf as part of the Polar Plunge fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for local Special Olympics athletes and programming.

The Rochester Polar Plunge is one of the largest, most popular, profitable, and exciting fundraisers for Special Olympics New York. Participants raise money by asking friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances for donations.
