Governor Kathy Hochul announced nearly $3 million in aid and an additional $50 million to help the East Buffalo community rebound

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Residents of Buffalo continue to heal following the massacre at a Tops supermarket just over a month ago.

Saturday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced nearly $3 million in aid and an additional $50 million to help the East Buffalo community rebound.

The investments will go toward addressing food, housing and transportation needs, among other things, to help those struggling in the aftermath.

“East Buffalo and communities like it have for decades suffered from significant disinvestment, neglect, and the failure of government policy,” Governor Hochul said. “We are not afraid to take on these systemic challenges, and together, with the City, the County, community members, and other partners – we’re going to do that. Today’s announcement is a down payment on the much larger amount of work that lies ahead.”

A commission is also being formed to memorialize the ten lives that were lost that fateful day, in hopes of turning pain into purpose.
