Five arrested after illegal guns found Friday night

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police say five males ages 16-24 were arrested Friday night and they recovered two loaded, illegal handguns.

Officers say just after 10:40 p.m. they responded to the 300 block of Roycroft Drive for the report of a car accident and a male shooting a gun from one of the cars. Officers were also notified of several ShotSpotter activations in the area. Police located the car on 300 block of First Street with five males inside. The driver and one of the passengers ran away and after a brief chase they were arrested by officers. The other occupants of the car were taken into custody on scene.

Police say a business in the 800 block of Portland Avenue was hit by gunfire during the initial report and no one inside was injured.

The charges are as follows:

  • A 20 year old male, city resident, has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree
  • A 19 year old male, city resident, has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree
  • A 24 year old male, city resident, has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree (currently on PAROLE for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree)
  • A 24 year old male, city resident, has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree
  • A 16 year old male, city resident, has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree
