ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) —The snow just keeps coming for Rochester, but mostly in small amounts. We have had measurable snow for thirteen of the last fourteen days at the Rochester Airport. However, it should be noted that even with the snowy weather pattern we are still running below normal for the season. As of today, Rochester is still ten inches below the average normal season. So, instead of the big snow shovel, for now, we only need the snowbrush.

Even though the snow amounts have been on the lighter side, the arctic temperatures continue for Western New York. It has been five days since the temperature actually reached above freezing and looking ahead it appears the arctic chill will likely last through the end of January. Tonight, look for more flurries near Lake Ontario with less than an inch along the Route 104 corridor. The temperature will fall into single temperatures. Another small, fast-moving “clipper” system will move across the great lakes to start the week. Monday will bring breaks of sunshine for the morning then more clouds with a snow shower possible by late afternoon. The high temperature will be in the middle 20s. Look for snow showers to continue Monday night with an inch of snow possible by Tuesday morning.

Another surge of very cold air will be building in again on Tuesday. The temperature may start in the mid-20s, but the mercury will fall into the teens and eventually into the single digits by Wednesday morning. Once again the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists are forecasting lake snow, but any accumulation should be limited to an inch or less. Expect the deep freeze to continue with the coldest weather centered on Wednesday as the temperature will stay in the low teens during the daylight hours and then fall into the sub-zero range Wednesday night.

As a ridge of high pressure builds in for the second half of the week, our temperatures are expected for moderate. Look for more sunshine on Thursday with the temperature rising through the mid to upper 20s. Another weak weather system will arrive on Friday with another round of snow showers Friday and Friday night. Once again snowfall amounts should be small as we head into next weekend. On the positive side, our long-range computer models are showing some milder weather arriving during the first week of February.
