NYS DOH: Chances of hospitalization with COVID much lower if re-infected, vaccinated

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The New York State Department of Health researched the aspects of re-infection of COVID.

They found that from May – November of 2021, COVID cases and hospitalizations were much lower among people who had previously been infected and/or were vaccinated.

The comparison was to people who either got COVID-19 for the first time during that span or were not vaccinated against the virus.

When the Delta variant came into the mix, new cases and hospitalizations were lowest among people who already had COVID, especially people who were also vaccinated against it.

To note, the study was done before the Omicron variant was discovered.
