Police: Inmate charged with murder for 2020 shooting near Cobbs Hill Park

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police have charged a man who’s currently in state prison with murder for a shooting that happened back on Sept. 11, 2020.

The shooting happened in a parking lot off of Norris Drive, right near Cobbs Hill Park. Police say the victim, 20-year-old Isaiah Mathis, was dropped off at Rochester General Hospital with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead shortly after he got to the emergency room.

Wednesday morning, an indictment was unsealed charging Ronn Keitt-Smith, 21, with second degree murder and two counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon in Mathis’s death.

Police say Keitt-Smith has been in custody for a different, unrelated criminal possession of a weapon charge since March of 2021 and is currently in state prison.
