Gates police officer suffers broken ankle while arresting suspect

GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Gates police officer suffered a broken ankle while trying to take a man accused of trespassing into custody on Thursday morning.

Gates police said Khalid Boyd, 26 of Farmington, was resisting arrest, which led to a police sergeant having his ankle broken. Boyd is charged with assault, trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, and obstruction of governmental administration in addition to resisting arrest. He was eventually taken to Monroe County Jail.

It started when Gates police responded to a report around 5:20 a.m. of a man trespassing inside a building on Buffalo road. that was closed for business. There were reports of burglaries in a neighboring building on Monday and Wednesday.

A witness to the trespassing directed police to follow a man walking eastbound on Buffalo Road. Gates police said they tried to stop the man, later identified as Boyd, but he resisted.

Police said Boyd possessed 46 pills for the controlled substance Alprazolam and two BB guns when they arrested him. Boyd was arraigned at Gates Court.
