ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The folks behind News10NBC at 11 said goodbye to our long-time director and our friend, Gordon Smith, Wednesday night. After 42 years at News10NBC, Gordon is retiring.

You may not see his face, but you do see his skill every weeknight, calling all the shots at six, seven and 11.

Gordon has meant so much more to all of us.

He has shaped the development of this station and he’s done it all.

He was the heart and soul behind our 30+ years of broadcasting the Strong Children’s telethon for Golisano Children’s Hospital.

He brought you coverage of parades, the ever-changing election shows, and so many other news specials and he has been a mentor to so many in the booth, training others to become directors.

Gordon, we’ll miss your “Happy Birthday” trumpet, your sense of humor, nicknames, calm demeanor and voice of reason.

We are truly grateful you’ve been on our team.

We will miss you, but know your dog, Doug, will much appreciate the extra walks.
