ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — A new bill introduced in Albany could make it so SUNY can’t open new charter schools by itself.

Currently, SUNY officials, along with the NYS Board of Regents can both separately issue charter school applications. However, this bill proposal would let the Regents approve any charter recommended by SUNY.

John Liu, a state Democratic Senator from Queens says the bill puts SUNY on the same playing field as other charter authorizers.
