Ontario County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant running for sheriff

GENEVA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A lieutenant with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office announced he’s running for sheriff.

David Cirencione (R) has been with the sheriff’s office for 20 years and has lived in Ontario County his whole life. He has also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department for 28 years.

Before entering law enforcement, Cirencione worked in Seneca County Child Protective Services as a caseworker and case supervisor.

Cirencione said he feels like this is a natural next step to lead the office back in the right direction.

Former Sheriff Philip Povero is at the helm until the end of the year. He stepped in following the resignation of former sheriff Kevin Henderson.
