Celebration of life for Medal of Honor recipient Gary Beikirch

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A celebration of life is being held for a local hero Saturday. It’s for Vietnam War veteran Gary Beikirch.

He was from Greece and died late last month after a long battle with cancer.

Beikirch was awarded The Medal of Honor for his actions as a combat medic in the army special forces. This is US military’s highest decoration.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Lolly and his entire family this weekend.

This morning’s event will be held at First Bible Baptist Church in Hilton at 10:00 a.m.
