ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — For the second time this week, Rochester General Hospital is on diversion.
The hospital is on diversion until at least 8 p.m. Thursday, meaning it will only take patients who are in a position of life or death, and all other ambulances must find a different emergency room for their patients.
RGH was also on diversion on Sunday.

While it’s not unheard of for hospitals to go on diversion, it has become more frequent in the Rochester area as hospital systems experience staffing shortages, and are impacted by staffing shortages in nursing homes that are making it difficult for them to discharge some patients.
News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke has reported on the issue extensively, even going on a ride-along.
