ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The fire happened at the Winton Gardens Towers on East Main Street around midnight.

RFD came to the apartment building for a single smoke alarm going off. Tenants said they heard the smoke detectors, which are in each apartment. However, because the smoke never reached the hallways and common areas, the general fire alarms for the entire building had yet to go off until the apartment door was opened to the hall.

Authorities say, if in doubt, do not disregard the sound of any smoke alarm going off, immediately call 911.

The fire was on the 10th floor of the building. The woman was found and taken out of the building.

There were no other injuries and no one was displaced from their homes.
