ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A new state redistricting push would affect people who live in the Greater Rochester area.

New York’s 24th Congressional District, which includes parts of Wayne County and is currently represented by Republican John Katko, would be split up so that its Western portions connect with Western New York.

Currently, the district reaches as west as the outer edge of Webster, encompasses Cayuga County and Syracuse, into Manilus, a town that’s east of Syracuse.

Under the plan that Syracuse.com is reporting on, the rest of the 24th would be drawn in with the area around Syracuse.

The redistricting commission is sending two separate plans to the legislature and both of those plans include this change.

New York is losing one Congressional seat, and with it one Electoral vote, because of the results of the 2020 Census.
