Governor Hochul in Rochester for COVID-19 briefing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Rochester Monday to deliver her COVID-19 briefing.
Hochul visited the SUNY Rochester Education Opportunity Center on Chestnut Street where she started off by thanking local leaders and called Monroe County Executive Adam Bello "brilliant" for purchasing thousands of test kits directly for distribution to schools and municipalities.
Hochul last week announced the opening of new state-run test sites, including one that opens tomorrow at the YMCA Carlson MetroCenter on East Main Street in Rochester. The hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Hochul indicated there were 103 deaths Sunday, and remarked on the passing of Rochester Leadership Academy student Derrick Watson.
She continued to highlight that along with keeping kids in school, hospital capacity is a chief concern during this winter surge.

Hochul said while the COVDID-19 cases numbers in New York dropped Sunday at 51,000 positive tests, she believes those numbers are misleading and are going to go up in the coming days, because, she says, a lot of people didn’t get tested over the holiday weekend.
About 1,100 of those positive results were in the Finger Lakes.
