ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — It has been a relatively minor snow event for Rochester over the last 24 hours with snow totals running between one and four inches.

This turned out to be slightly below the forecasted snow amount. The official snow amount at the Rochester Airport was 3.6 inches during the last 24 hours. But, even with this new amount of snow, the season is still running more than 14 inches below normal. Snow is in the process of tapering down, but a very cold northwest flow will continue to produce small amounts of lake flurries and snow showers that will be off and on into the evening. Any new accumulation should be limited to less than an inch for overnight. It will be a very cold night as the low temperature will fall to the middle teens and the wind chill will be in the single digits.

As you are heading back to work and school this week, your Monday will be very cold once again. “Layers” will be needed as the day will start in the teens with a high temperature only in the low 20s. Look for a few lake flurries possible for the morning with breaks of sunshine expected for the afternoon. We can look forward to moderation to the temperature by the middle of the week. Tuesday will feature partly to mostly sunny skies and the mercury will rise into the upper 30s. Wednesday brings more sun for the morning with clouds and possibly a late-day rain shower. It will not be as cold with the temperature rising to near 40 degrees.

Another low-pressure system will be tracking through the great lakes on Wednesday and this will bring another significant change in the weather for the second half of the week. Thursday will be windy at times with the temperature falling into the low 30s. There will be a strong west wind gusting to 15 to 35 mph which will produce some lake snow showers coming off Lake Erie with maybe a small accumulation west of Rochester. It will be back to the blustery and very cold weather for Friday with occasional lake snow across most of Western New York. Some accumulation is possible in the most persistent lake snow. This chilly weather will be with us right into the start of the next weekend.

This will be an active weather pattern this week. It is recommended your keep turning to News10NBC for the latest weather updates.
