New Year’s Prep: Times Square ball is almost ready to drop

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WHEC) — Manhattan is a few days away from celebrating the end of 2021 and ringing in 2022.
Of course that means getting ready to drop the historic ball from Times Square!
192 new crystals are being installed on the 12-foot, 11-thousand pound ball. That’s more than 2,600 hundred cyrstal triangles on the iconic ball.
New Year’s celebrations will be a bit tamer than usual – COVID restrictions are limiting the crowd to 15,000 people and everyone who attends must be fully vaccinated.
