BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Brockport High School senior Delaney Szabo is this week’s News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week. Western New York weather isn’t always conducive to outdoor Tennis but Delaney Szabo has found a way to keep up.
“We’re very lucky to have a wall here at our courts to hit against whenever practices were canceled,” the Brockport High Senior said. “Sometimes we would go in the gym at the middle school.”
All that practice has helped her reach Sectionals the last two years, both seasons in which she was 2nd-Team All-County. She’s had no shortage of practice time.
“My dad got me into it. My grandpa was a really great tennis player. And, yeah, I’ve I was on the modified team as an eighth grader, and then freshman year I moved up to the varsity team.”
Academically, Szabo is on the high honor roll and a member of the national honor society. She’s lining herself up well for her future, which she’s contemplating between a few colleges. However, one thing Szabo does know is that she wants to continue playing tennis.
“I’ve always wanted to play higher up than the high school level. And with more practice and work, I think I could do it.”
Congrats to Brockport High’s Delaney Szabo on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
