ROCHESTER, N.Y. β Irondequoit High Boys Basketball coach Chris Cardon will close the book on a 37-year career once the upcoming season ends. He felt this was the right time to make the decision.
βIt takes a lot of energy and time to run a program right way and although I still have the passion to coach, I think itβs time for someone else to lead,β Cardon said in a release by Irondequoit High.
A Greece native, Cardon heads into his final campaign with 501 career wins (the 5th most in Section V history and the most among active coaches), including ones in the 2017 NY State Title game and in three section championship games (2011, 2017, 2018). Three years ago, he was inducted into the New York State Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
βIt has been an honor to be the coach here,β he added. βWe built a program, I think, the community can be proud of and I have been blessed as much as anyone anywhere.β
The Eagles open up their final season with Cardon at the helm on Friday at home against Pittsford Sutherland.
