NYS sets daily COVID case record for eighth time in recent days

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — More than 49,000 new cases were reported on Dec. 26 in New York State, with most of them downstate.
Hospitalizations reached nearly 5,000 on Sunday. However, health officials still say that the Omicron variant is showing less deadly symptoms than previous variants. Vaccines are also key in stopping severe infection.
The majority of the hospitalized cases are people who are not vaccinated.
