Pittsford schools closed Thursday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Pittsford Central School District announced Wednesday that schools will be closed on Thursday, December 23.

In the announcement, which was sent out to the school community at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, the district say the decision to cancel school Thursday was due in large part to "staffing issues surrounding open positions and illness (particularly in the Transportation Department)."

Both students and staff have been told not to come in on Thursday. The district had been planning to distribute free rapid Covid-19 test kits on Thursday ahead of the holiday break. That distribution has been moved up to take place on Wednesday instead. If you live in Pittsford and were planning on picking up a test kit on Thursday, the district says you can do it Wednesday "during the hours specified by your child’s principal."

Superintendent Michael Pero said “Hopefully this will allow our students staff and families precious time in preparation for a healthy holiday recess.”

The district is planning to resume in-person classes on Monday, January 3.
