Troopers: 2 facing many charges after drugs, illegally possessed guns found during traffic stop

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two men, one of whom is a parolee, are facing a list of charges after New York State Troopers stopped a car for a traffic violation on I-490 in the City of Rochester Monday night.

It happened at around 10 p.m.

Troopers say during the stop, they determined the driver, 29-year-old Terry Smith, was high, and they arrested him for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.

Then, troopers say they searched the vehicle and found Oxycodone and two handguns, one of which was a "ghost gun".

Troopers took the passenger, 27-year-old parolee Akeem T. Johnson into custody. He was just released from prison last month, according to troopers, for a kidnapping conviction.

Smith and Johnson were both charged with two counts of second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon for having prior convictions, two counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon for a high capacity magazine and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Troopers also charged Smith with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
