Consumer Alert: NY’s AG says there’s at-home COVID-19 test price gouging going on, and she wants you to report it

ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — We have a Consumer Alert for you, and it comes from New York State Attorney General Letitia James’s Office just before many of you might be getting ready to go see your family over the holiday season.

The AG Tuesday issued the alert over concerns of potential price gouging when it comes to you buying that over-the-counter COVID test to take home with you.

James’s office says its received complaints of tests being sold at double to triple the price. For a heads up, the going price for a test at a store like Walgreens should cost about $14-$25 a package, but the office reported costs at $40 to $70.
