ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wednesday marks the 81st anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. A local service was held in the morning at the Rochester Yacht Club commemorating that tragic day. It was open to the public.
Veterans and members of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard were in attendance. The organizer of the event was able to speak with us about the importance of why we should always remember this day.
“I feel like patriotism is important to keep alive. I think our history is so important because it creates who we are and gives us the freedoms that we have,” said Greg Cody, a Navy veteran and event organizer. “Today, I think like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, is one of those days people take a step back and think about it for a moment.”
Over 2,400 people lost their lives on this day 81 years ago.
