ROCHESTER,N.Y. (WHEC) — High winds blasted the region over the weekend.
Utility crews have been picking up splintered poles and damaged electric lines. A few people picking up trees from their yards told News10NBC they’re keeping a positive attitude while waiting for their power to flip back on.
“What can you do? I mean you can’t control it, you can’t control the weather…you just have to learn with it and make the best out of it,” said John Toal, who lives in the Rochester area and spent most of the weekend cleaning up after the mess Saturday’s powerful storm left behind.
Poles and wires were down all across the county. During a cleanup on East River Road, crews were digging new holes to replace or replant utility poles.
Not only is work being done on the ground, but the wind gusts are also at a low enough speed that recovery in the air is safe. Over near the Clarkson-Parma Town Line, workers in bucket trucks fixing leaning poles.
Toal says whether the weather is cold or hot, brutal or minor, he wants everyone to stay positive.
"My back yard is as bad as the front yard. You know, we’ll get by…we will survive.”
