School budget voters say ‘no’ to capital improvement projects in Webster and Fairport

The school budget votes are in. The majority of voters said no to capital improvement projects in the Fairport and Webster school districts.

The vote was close in Webster, 755 yes votes to 785 no votes. The Webster district leaders had proposed a $115 million improvement project.   

This would have included updating the HVAC systems in all schools, replacing outdated roofs, reconstructing bus loops and parking lots and upgrading emergency generators.

The final tally, close in Fairport as well, the capital improvement plan defeated by a vote of 1269 to 1220.

Voters said no to spending money to renovate libraries, music rooms and cafeterias. The plan would have also improved the track and field and tennis courts at Fairport high school.

The superintendent says district leaders will now have to re-evaluate their options.
