Rep. John Katko delivers farewell speech to House

Congressman John Katko said his farewell speech to the House on Wednesday after 8 years of representing the citizens of New York’s 24th District.

He was elected back in 2014. During his speech on the House floor in D.C., he reflected on all those years of service.

“Madam Speaker, I rise today after eight years of service in gratitude for this body and the people of central New York who have entrusted me to represent them in congress since 2015,” said Rep Katko.

“Finally, as my time in congress comes to an end, I urge my colleagues – Republican and Democrat – to consider the impact of working across the aisle as they seek to address the many challenges ahead.”

“I made working across the aisle a priority during my eight years in the house and I can leave here knowing I achieved real results and worked every day to better my district in Central New York. Thank you, Madam Speaker and for the final time, I yield back.”

As a Republican, Rep. Katko also voted for the impeachment of former president Donald Trump.
He announced back in January of this year that he would not run for reelection. He’ll be replaced by Rep. Claudia Tenney, who won the race for the newly redistricted 24th during the midterms.

His district includes all of Wayne, Onondaga, and Cayuga counties and the western portion of Oswego County.
