Brockport Central School District transportation shortages lead to school cancellation Friday

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — BCSD grades K through 8 was scheduled for a half day on Friday, Dec. 10, but driver shortages are forcing the district to instead cancel classes for these grades.

Grades 9-12 will still have a full day of school and all other activites that require transportation will go on as planned. All school is expected to be back to normal by Monday, Dec. 13.

Many school districts in the Rochester area and throughout the country are having similar issues with shortages. The RCSD superintendent laid out a plan to address the fallback in drivers.

BCSD says they held a successful job fair, which included staffing for transportation. However, the process for a person to be licensed to drive a bus takes multiple months, so issues could still arise until then. Once drivers are cleared, BCSD expects the problem to be resolved.
