Rochester’s mayor proposes COVID-19 vaccine incentive program for city employees

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester’s mayor, James Smith, proposed a COVID-19 vaccine incentive for city employees.

It would be for workers who get vaccinated or boosted before June 30, 2022.

The proposal before the City Council would also create a lottery.

If the city workforce achieves 75% vaccination before Jan. 31, employees will be entered into a drawing for more rewards.

Mayor Smith said the cost would be about $350,000, which he suggested could come from American Rescue Plan funds.

Rochester City Council will consider the incentive during a meeting next week.
