First Alert Weather: Damaging winds ease overnight

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The howling winds Saturday afternoon and evening left tens of thousands of you without power, but our weather will slowly improve from here on out.

Wind gusts will slowly start to ease tonight, with gusts to 30 mph by Sunday morning. Some isolated outages are still possible, even as the winds ease, but generally speaking, we should see big improvements overnight.

We’ll have nice weather on Sunday for any cleanup that needs to be done. Plenty of sunshine returns, and while temperatures will be much cooler, we’ll just feel more seasonable temperatures. Speaking of temperatures, Rochester hit a new record high for Saturday’s date, reaching 64 degrees and breaking the old record of 62 from 2015.

A quiet stretch ahead. We’ll see quiet weather and above-average temperatures through much of this week. We’ll remain dry with highs in the 40s and 50s through Wednesday. We’re watching Thursday that may bring another system similar to this past one – warmth ahead of it, with the potential for gusty winds following a cold front.

If confidence grows for another high wind event, we’ll give you a heads up with a Yellow Alert in the extended forecast. At this point, we’ll say "stay tuned."
