Hochul announces another $2M for refugee resettlement

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced another $2 million will go to refugee resettlement and social services agencies.

The money will help provide medical care, language skills, job training, free immigration legal services, and more.

There are more than 7,500 Afghans living in New York already and the governor said she expects to welcome another 1,800 more.

"We’ve sent a message from day one, we’ll take as many as you want to have to New York State because it’s a huge point of pride for us. We’ll support them to build a whole new life."

Tuesday’s announcement brings the total state commitment to $5 million.
