Deputies: Livingston County man charged for pulling out illegal gun during family dispute

WEST SPARTA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Livingston County man is facing charges after the Sheriff’s Office says he pulled out an illegal gun during a family dispute.

Deputies were called to a home in West Sparta on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at around 7:15 p.m.

They say 60-year-old David Benedict had a revolver with five live rounds of ammo, but no permit to carry it in New York State.

Benedict was arraigned and released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket because the offense does not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.
