Rochester Yacht Club hosts Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Tuesday marked 80 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor killed more than 2,300 Americans, and remembrance ceremonies spanned across the county, including in Rochester.

People gathered at the Rochester Yacht Club Tuesday morning as organizers gave a speech on the deadly attack, rang ship bell tolls for the victims, laid a wreath in the water, played taps, and much more.

Commander of the Monroe County American Legion Tom Puff said last year the event could not be held due to COVID, and added he was "overjoyed" everyone could be back together.

"It’s important that we remember the sacrifices of the 2,400 who lost their lives [at Pearl Harbor] and teach the next generation never to forget," Puff said.

A breakfast was also held after the ceremony.
