Governor Hochul announces homeowner assistance fund

NEW YORK CITY (WHEC) – Governor Kathy Hochul announced Monday that New York will be receiving more than a half-billion dollars to help homeowners struggling to pay their bills due to the pandemic.

$539 million dollars is coming from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Homeowner Assistance Fund. The program targets low to moderate income homeowners who are struggling with their mortgage, property tax, water or sewer bills. Assistance is also available for cooperative or condo unit owners behind on maintenance fees, or manufactured homeowners behind on thier chattel loans or retail installment contracts.

Eligible applicants must have household incomes at or below 100% of the Area Median Income and be at least 30 days delinquent on payments for their primary residence.

Applications will be accepted beginning January 3, 2022.
