ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police say a sex offender is now facing multiple charges including murder following the death of another man officers say he shot in a robbery attempt last week.

Police took 31-year-old Whitney Morris into custody Thursday. They say he shot 51-year-old Christopher Porchea in a parking lot on the corner of North Clinton Avenue and Norton Street last Friday night.

Porchea died from his wounds on Monday. Investigators soon tabbed Morris as a suspect. Porchea’s death marks the 78th homicide in Rochester.

Morris is now facing a second-degree murder and a first-degree robbery charge.

Morris is currently on parole in connection with a first-degree criminal sex act conviction where police say a 7-year-old girl was victimized.

He will be arraigned in Rochester City Court Friday morning.
