First Alert Weather: The winds of change will be with us tomorrow

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Most folks would say our weather today was pretty good for the first day of December. Light winds, breaks of sunshine and a milder temperature is always a good combination. However, looking ahead it appears that we will need to be prepared for some rapid changes.

Tonight we expect dry conditions for the evening, then the chance for a few spotty rain showers after midnight. A southerly wind will keep the temperature in the lower 40s to upper 30s. Our weather for Thursday will indirectly be impacted by a storm passing just south of Hudson Bay in Canada. This fast moving storm will increase the wind and the temperature across Western New York.

Initially, we will find rain showers for Thursday morning and then noticeably warmer weather arrives for the afternoon. The News10NBC First Alert weather team is forecasting the warmest weather in more than two weeks for Rochester.

The afternoon should bring the high temperature into the low 50s. This surge of warmer air will be accompanied by a strong, gusty wind. Watch the trash bins because winds may gust close to 45 mph by later in the afternoon. These winds speeds, although problematic, should be below the criteria for any significant issues for damage. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for portions of Western New York from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The mild weather will not last very long. A series of cold fronts will pass over the area Thursday night and Friday. This will usher in much colder temperatures with readings in the 20s and 30s for Friday and Saturday. You can expect flurries and snow showers for the end of the week, but at this time no significant accumulation is expected.

It should be noted that this does appear to be a very dynamic weather pattern for this first and second week of December. In all likelihood, we will see the potential for several storms over the first half of December.
