Police identify 2 children killed in Lyell Avenue crash, say third child is improving

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police identified the two children killed in a crash the day before Thanksgiving,

Police say 11-year-old Jadden Desue and four-year-old Ja’vion Green-Rucker were both in a car turning left at the intersection of Lyell Avenue and Mt. Read Boulevard when the crash happened.

Another child, an eight-year-old, was seriously hurt but police say he has improved in the hospital. The children’s mother, who was driving, was hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The man driving the car that hit their car was released from the hospital.

All of the children attended Enrico Fermi School #17 in the Rochester City School District.

A vigil was held Wednesday night to remember the lives of the two young children, additionally, some small business owners are raising money to help out the family while they recover.

Investigators are still working to find out what specifically played a role in the crash, but they did rule out alcohol and drugs. Police say they will work with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office in determining what charges, if any, would be pressed.

A spokesperson for the Rochester City School District sent the following statement Friday:

"We are devastated at the passing of two of our School #17 students and are praying for the speedy recovery of our scholar who remains hospitalized. Our hearts go out to their family and the School #17 community. Our team has been working with the school leadership and will have the Trauma, Illness, and Grief Team as well as school Social Workers present on Monday to provide support and counseling."
