ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)—Rochester Police say a city man is dead and another is in critical condition after a double shooting Friday morning.

Police went to the scene at Cummings Street between Clifford Avenue and Bay Street around midnight for a shots fired call. While on the scene, officers learned the two men showed up at Rochester General Hospital with gunshot wounds.

RPD identified the man killed as 23-year-old Davezhone Bratcher, police say he was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to officers, Bratcher was going home after a Thanksgiving dinner at the time of the shooting. He and the other man were in a car with three family members, including his 5-year-old sister.

The other man was driving on Cummings when they say a suspect blocked the car with their car. The suspect then got out and tried to rob the family. At this point, police say the man tried to back away from the suspect, and that’s when the person shot at the car.

The other man drove the family to the hospital despite being shot. While he is listed as critical, police say he is expected to survive. Nobody else, including the child, was hurt.

The deadly shooting comes as police investigate two other shootings that saw three other people shot Friday morning. It’s also the second double shooting of the morning.

Friday morning’s killing marks the 76th homicide in Rochester in 2021. Police say the suspect and the family did not know each other.
