Yellow Alert for lake enhanced snow this evening

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Thus far, we have seen little or no snow accumulation. In fact, the snow coverage has diminished late this afternoon and early this evening.

That is good news for holiday travel, but as low pressure slowly rotates into eastern New York State the temperature will slowly fall below freezing for the overnight. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists expect it to turn cold enough for lake enhanced snow showers to develop off Lake Ontario. This may produce some poor visibility at times with generally minor accumulations in the range of 1-2 inches. The greatest likelihood for the accumulation would be between 9 p.m to 12 a.m. This would likely reduce speeds on the untreated area roadways. If you are planning on traveling later tonight you may want to leave extra time to get to your destination. We expect much of this snow to taper off to snow flurries after midnight and the temperature will slowly fall into the upper 20s. Any untreated roads will be slippery for early Monday morning, but conditions will improve rapidly thought tomorrow morning.
