GANANDA, N.Y. (WHEC)— Monday morning marked a return several months in the making for a Gananda School District teen who was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash.
In a video shared to social media, Austin Sierra could be seen wheeling himself through the hallways to the sound of clapping and cheering as well as a large banner that read "Welcome Back Austin." He waved to the crowd and paused for a few moments.
Police said Sierra, 17, was seriously hurt when his motorcycle crashed with a pickup truck at the intersection of Gananda Parkway and West Walworth Road back on Sep.24.
Sierra had to be airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital. The teen was shown to be missing a portion of his left leg.
The district said it’s been a long journey for Sierra, but they’re proud to have him back.
