ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police are searching for a shooter after a man was shot early Monday morning.

Police initially went to the scene for a ShotSpotter alert at Lyell Avenue and Whitney Street just after midnight, and while on the scene, they got a call about a man shot on Child Street.

Police went over and found the man, who then told officers he was actually shot at Lyell and Whitney and had walked to Child.

The shooting was the latest violent incident over a weekend that saw multiple people shot and killed on the heels of a local State of Emergency declared in the city.

The man was taken to the hospital, police say he is expected to survive.

No arrests have been made, anyone with information is asked to call 911.
