First Alert Weather: Some flakes return this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — It’s official — November weather has returned. Colder air continues to stream in following a cold front Friday morning.

This will set the stage for a winter-like weekend, at least at times. Lake enhanced rain showers will become organized tonight and focus near Buffalo. It may turn cool enough for some wet flakes to mix in by morning, but no accumulation is expected.

A brisk southwesterly wind will continue on Saturday, aiming the lake effect rain/snow band into parts of Genesee, maybe western Monroe Counties in the morning, before dropping south with a wind shift by afternoon. Once again, temperatures will be marginal for any accumulation, and the ground is still fairly warm, so don’t expect any issues on roads or any real accumulation.

The lake effect should settle south into the Southern Tier Saturday night into Sunday morning, with a minor accumulation in the higher terrain south of Buffalo, and perhaps in the Bristol Hills and Letchworth Sunday morning. A fast-moving clipper will disrupt that band later on Sunday, and increase the coverage of rain/wet snow showers Sunday evening into Monday morning. Once again, temperatures will be just barely cold enough for some wet snow to mix in, and likely a little too warm on the ground for anything to really stick for any amount of time.

Next week: Monday remains unsettled and chilly with scattered rain and wet snow showers under a mostly cloudy sky and a brisk wind. This will shut down on Tuesday, with some sun returning, and briefly milder air on Wednesday. Highs on Wednesday will make it into the 50s, before falling again on Thursday with another cold front.

Bottom line: We’re in a fairly active and cooler weather pattern, which will be conducive to more chances of the white stuff over the next one to two weeks.
