Former Rochester Red Wing wins AL Reliever of the Year for second straight season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Liam Hendriks, a relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, also earned the award in 2020.

Hendriks, who finished the 2021 season with a 2.54 ERA and 71.0 innings pitched, had stints with the Rochester Red Wings from 2011 to 2013, with occasion call ups to the Minnesota Twins. He pitched over 250 inning in his career with the Red Wings, more than any other team in his minor league baseball career.

Hendriks has been a main stay in the major leagues since 2018, with zero trips back to the minor leagues since. Last season he won the AL Reliever of the Year with the Oakland Athletics. By winning it with the White Sox this season, Hendriks makes history as the first pitcher to win the award in consecutive seasons.
